Three people were found stabbed to death in Ndeotadi in the Paniai district of Papua on Friday, including a member of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The victims were found by locals in a house-shop near a gold mine in Ndeotadi which was owned by the dead soldier, Warrant Officer Sunaryo.
“Sunaryo is member of Paniai district military command, while the two other victims were named Aco and Nini,” National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said on Saturday. “The detailed identities of the latter [victims] are not yet known.”
Boy said that locals grew suspicious because Sunaryo’s shop usually opens at 6 a.m. — they found it still locked at 8 a.m., and knocked on the door. After no one answered, the locals informed the police, according to reports.
“The police officer found the trio dead of sharp-weapon wounds,” Boy said. “Until now, we’re still searching for the perpetrator. The motive of the incident is not known.”
In May, Brimob officers shot five locals at a Ndeotadi billard hall after an alleged altercation, killing two.
